Does field security work only with custom fields in JIRA?

I am new to JIRA, but expect to need to create some custom fields. But I also assume that I will be using native/non-custom fields. I want to be able to prevent some users from editing both kinds of fields, even though they will be able to edit some fields. Will this work?

Does the plug-in still only support assignee and time tracking?
Any updates if other fields will be supported like "Fix Version"?

Hello,

For the time being JFS supports Assignee field, Time Tracking fields and all types of custom fields. No other fields are supported.
